Why are children's garments so expensive?

I am sorry but I just do not understand how children's clothing manufacturers and their retailers can charge so much money for toddler and small child size clothing.

I mean, how much material goes into one of these garments? They cost as much or more than adult size clothing! Irritating and unfair!

Think about the labor costs and that isn't not much more work to make a larger item than a smaller one.
