Historically speaking, reenactment has to do with some sort of role play in which participants attempt to recreate some aspects of a historical event or period.

It may be as narrow as a specific moment from a battle, such as the reenactment of Pickett's at the Great Reunion of 1913. On the other hand, it may be as broad as an entire period.
